
Tamar Exotic Meals was formed in March 2003 in response to a growing demand for authentic African Ready Meals. To test the theory, we took a stand at IFE 2003 to present some of the ready to eat meals. Being of West African origin, we decided our first collection would focus on meals of West African origin.
Many of the recipes were taken from family archives and some were developed using carefully selected West African vegetables. The frozen ready meals were presented at the IFE exhibition, sampled and feedback obtained.
There was an overwhelming response from chefs, managers and consumers who were keen to buy the ready meals. Thus, we knew we had a viable business opportunity.
Eventually in July 2003, we teamed up with a BRC approved factory to produce some ready meal samples. The recipes were refined to ensure it met the highest standards but without compromising on any of the traditional ingredients or flavours that have made these African ready meals unique.
